Finley has been studying hard at grooveKSQ to master some classic rock songs. In the process of learning those songs, we talk about technique, feel and how to push and pull a band by how you approach the song. But that is always the overarching goal: serve the song.
Winter grooveFEST Recap
First, a big THANK YOU to every one of the students’ friends and families that came out on a rainy and cold evening to support our young performers. Such a strong show of support really helps to encourage the students to continue with their hard work and dedication to musical performance.
Later this week, you will see some video of excerpts of the performances from last night, but for now, please enjoy some photos!
Musicians, not “just” drummers...
grooveFEST is Coming Soon!
grooveFEST is a unique performance event that features both students and professional musicians alike side by side. grooveFEST will take place right here at grooveKSQ on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 6:00pm. Seating is limited to 50 guests, so please buy your tickets now. Once we are sold out, there will be no standing room tickets added.
This event will be part student recital, part concert and will provide the audience with a unique musical experience that is percussion based and unlike anything you may have seen before.
Working Through One of the Classics
This afternoon I had one of the Charley Wilcoxon books out to work through some finger control exercises with a student. This stuff can be really fun to work through, especially if you can work them at low volumes! Control is the key as always....
Nothing fancy: a measure of single 16th notes followed by a measure of single 32nd notes. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Save the Date: Winter GrooveFest, December 1, 2019
SAVE THE DATE! Our next student performance experience, Winter GrooveFest will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2019. This is going to be a much-expanded version of our first recital that occurred in June, so I hope everyone is ready to celebrate our awesome young people that are turning into terrific musicians and performers.
