Rob Robinson is an American Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist and Drummer. He has performed a variety of musical styles over the years including pop, rock, country, folk and blues. Rob's interest in music began with the influence of his parents in the early 1960's. His father was a rudimental snare drummer and was very involved in drum and bugle corps. His mom, also a product of the drum corps activity, enjoyed popular music and broadway show tunes. Rob recalls his parents record collection included everything from Military Marches to the musical "Hair". Sinatra, Martin, Streisand, Burt Bacharach and The Carpenters were all part of Rob's early music appreciation before he became engaged in early 70’s rock.
Rob followed in the footsteps of his parents and enjoyed many years in the drum corps activity. He also had a love for popular music and during his teens began forming bands in his hometown of West Chester, Pennsylvania. His passion for drumming and music led him into several original music projects around the Philadelphia area before he landed a job with roots based artist Ben Vaughn. Rob credits Vaughn for opening a new world of music to him. As Rob toured the US and Europe extensively he was introduced to artists such as John Hiatt, Alex Chilton, Jonathan Richmond, not to mention the many independent artists that he met along the way. It was during this time that Rob took and interest in writing. These new influences had a big impact on the direction of his own music and ideas. Rob’s focus would soon shift from drumming to writing and performing his own songs.
While continuing to drum for many artists around the Philadelphia area Rob began working on his first collection of original music. In 2013 he released his first solo album "Catchin' A Ride”. In 2014 Rob released two singles “I Believe” and “Walk Away” and signed on with Lou DeMarco and Momentary Love Management. Since then he has taken his music on the road to many US cities including New York, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Norfolk, Nashville and Memphis. He has also been a featured guest on NPR's Acoustic Highway. He is currently working on a follow-up solo album.
Currently Rob is working with Producer Ross Troy on his follow up record to Catchin’ A Ride. The album will feature all brand new original material. As a testimony to Rob’s diverse musical background the songs range from hard hitting rock and roll to those lonely desert sunset ballads. The album will also feature songs that were inspired by his 2016 Kicking Brew Tour through the south. One highlight is sure to be the fun traveling song “Woke up in Memphis”. As in the past Rob explores topics of relationships, addiction and some of the challenges of everyday living. He is hopeful for a springtime release in 2019.
Rob is very active in his community in Cecil County, MD. He brings music to recovery and worship events throughout the County and in Oxford, PA at Bethany Church. He has hopes of recording an album of Gospel music at some point.
